Privacy policy
1. Who is responsible?
Skate Academy GmbH, Am Wasser 1, 8600 Dübendorf, info@skate-academy.com, is responsible for processing your personal data. We comply with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, for example for athletes from the EU, we comply with it as well.
2. What data do we process?
- When you visit the website: technically necessary data such as IP address, date and time and browser (server log files).
- When you contact us: name, email, phone and the content of your message.
- For athletes: name, date of birth, contact details (parents' details for minors), club, training group, training plans and logs, competition results, billing and payment data.
- Performance and health data: results of performance tests (e.g. VALD force plates), wellbeing check-ins, injuries, therapy and return-to-sport information, and training videos for technique analysis.
- Sports watch data (e.g. Garmin): only if the athlete (or, for minors, a parent) explicitly connects their account – activities incl. duration, heart rate and training load, sleep, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, stress, Body Battery, steps and intensity minutes; cycle data only on separate opt-in.
3. What for?
To plan and run training and competitions, manage training load and recovery, help prevent injuries, communicate with athletes and families, and invoice our services. We do not sell data and do not use it for advertising.
4. Garmin and other sports watches
- Connection: athletes connect their own Garmin account in our training platform (hub.skate-academy.com) via Garmin's own consent screen. For minors, a parent gives consent. Data only arrives after this consent.
- Use: Garmin data is used only inside our platform for the athlete's own training (readiness and load per athlete). It is visible to the athlete, their parents (minors) and the authorised coaching and performance staff – never on public screens.
- Source: data and scores based on Garmin data are marked with "Garmin" as their source.
- AI analysis: our training platform includes an AI assistant (Anthropic Claude, commercial API). Authorised coaching staff may use it to analyse an athlete's Garmin data together with our own training and test data, to interpret trends and adjust training. Data is sent pseudonymised and only as far as needed; under Anthropic's commercial terms it is not used to train AI models. The assistant only makes suggestions – coaches decide.
- No sharing: we do not sell Garmin data or pass it on to third parties for their own purposes.
- Storage: in our platform database hosted in the EU (Supabase, EU region).
- Disconnect and deletion: the connection can be removed at any time in our platform or in Garmin Connect. When an athlete disconnects or asks us to, we delete the Garmin data we have stored.
5. Health data and consent
Health, performance and sports watch data are sensitive personal data. We process them only with explicit consent. Consent is voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect participation in training.
6. Children and young people
Many of our athletes are minors. For them, a parent or legal guardian gives consent. Data and videos are seen only by the coaching team and, where needed for their care, our performance and therapy partners.
7. Photos and videos
We use training videos internally for technique analysis. We publish photos and videos from training and competitions (website, social media) only with the consent of the athlete or their parents.
8. Who receives the data?
The coaching team and, where needed and with consent, our partners for performance testing and therapy (AXL – Athletes Excellence Lab GmbH, physio partners). Service providers that process data on our behalf: Squarespace (this website), Vercel (hosting of our training platform), Supabase (platform database, EU), Garmin (sports watch data, only after authorisation), TrainingPeaks (training planning), Anthropic (AI assistant in our training platform, including analysis of pseudonymised training, test and sports watch data), and providers for email and accounting. Some providers may process data outside Switzerland, for example in the EU or the USA; in that case we ensure adequate protection through recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
9. How long?
For as long as we work together. Sports watch and health data are deleted immediately when consent is withdrawn or the watch is disconnected, and in any case no later than 12 months after the end of our cooperation. Accounting records are kept as long as the law requires (10 years).
10. Your rights
You can request access to your data at any time, have it corrected or deleted, object to processing and withdraw consent. Write to info@skate-academy.com. If you disagree with our response, you can contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, edoeb.admin.ch) or, if you live in the EU, your local data protection authority.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The version on this page applies.
